Mr. Rudolph Carter,
Recruitment head,
Influx Investment Inc.,
2166 Oak Street,
Pensacola, FL 32514. Dear Mr. Carter,       I learned about the opening for senior financial consultant in Influx Investment Inc. through advertisement in XYZ newspaper. As the senior financial consultant job needs expertise to deal with clients, I feel I am the right candidate for the job as I have experience in handling key accounts that has helped enhance the reputation of my present firm, Alpha Finance Inc. I work as consultant at its client's end. I am looking for a job change because, Alpha Finance Inc. is in the process of merging with another company and the entire business will shifted to New York.       Professional skills:

  • I have demonstrated my strategic ability through successfully implementing investment strategies.
  • I have consistently contributed my leadership skills in a corporate setting, while managing the creative process, motivating and empowering team members, fine-tuning auditing plans, and juggling multiple administrative tasks.
  • My team was awarded "The Best Key Holders" award consecutively for the last two years.
      I am particularly interested in the position of accounts manager in the following categories:
  • Handling and leveraging investment opportunities for the portfolio companies and advising them on appropriate strategies;
  • Performing technical accounting research, as required for accounting implications and modifications to stock option grants, derivative instruments, ESOPs, pension, post-retirement and post-employment issues etc.
      I would like to meet you to discuss how I can add value to your client firms. I will contact you soon on the companies contact number to know about the possibility for an interview. Thank you for considering me for the post of senior financial consultant. Regards, Michael Reynolds,

If you're interested enough to answer this letter, I'll be glad to furnish you with a list of references -- including the lad I work for now. The enclosed clippings should give you a rough idea of who I am. It's a year old, however, and I've changed a bit since it was written. I've taken some writing courses from Columbia in my spare time, learned a hell of a lot about the newspaper business, and developed a healthy contempt for journalism as a profession. As far as I'm concerned, it's a damned shame that a field as potentially dynamic and vital as journalism should be overrun with dullards, bums, and hacks, hag-ridden with myopia, apathy, and complacence, and generally stuck in a bog of stagnant mediocrity. If this is what you're trying to get The Sun away from, then I think I'd like to work for you. Most of my experience has been in sports writing, but I can write everything from warmongering propaganda to learned book reviews. I can work 25 hours a day if necessary, live on any reasonable salary, and don't give a black damn for job security, office politics, or adverse public relations. I would rather be on the dole than work for a paper I was ashamed of. It's a long way from here to British Columbia, but I think I'd enjoy the trip. If you think you can use me, drop me a line. If not, good luck anyway. Sincerely, Hunter S. Thompson The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967 (The Fear and Loathing Letters, Vol. 1) (Amazon, thanks Gil Kaufman!)
