But Government Executive reported that “O’Neill and others believed” such regulatory issues “would quell the free flow of ideas and no-holds-barred discussions they sought.” Pentagon lawyers had warned that the word ‘group’ might necessitate certain obligations and advised running the whole thing privately: “So O’Neill renamed it the Highlands Forum and moved into the private sector to manage it as a consultant to the Pentagon.” The Pentagon Highlands Forum thus runs under the mantle of O’Neill’s ‘intellectual capital venture firm,’ ‘Highlands Group Inc.’

While the five Hmong militia escorts whom the local village headman had prudently provided laid down a covering fire, my Australian photographer John Everingham and I flattened ourselves in the elephant grass and crawled through the mud to safety. Without those armed escorts, my research would have been at an end and so would I. After that ambush failed, a CIA paramilitary officer summoned me to a mountaintop meeting where he threatened to murder my Lao interpreter unless I ended my research. After winning assurances from the . embassy that my interpreter would not be harmed, I decided to ignore that warning and keep going.

I registered for CIA exams in November 2012. In November 2016, i applied for the one year extension of my registration which now expires on 26th November 2017. I have just Part 3 remaining to take and i am currently studying towards it. If you recall, when one registers for any of the CIA Parts, there is usually a 180 days period after the date of registration within which the candidate is expected to take the examination. Specifically, it reads thus “Your exam registration is valid for 180 days from the date you received approval to sit for the exam. If you do not sit for the exam within this authorization window, the registration will expire, your registration fee will be forfeited, and you will be required to re-register for this exam”.
Would this 180 days period apply in my situation given that my CIA Registration expires on 26th November 2017? Suppose I register for the CIA Part 3 on 1st November 2017 and schedule to take the examination on say 20th December 2017 (which will still be within the normal 180 days scheduling interval) would there be a problem.
